Gamma Burst is a Spaceship Builder top down Action Roguelike, in which you build your spaceship using tiles (Hulls) on a grid and then placing Weapons and Thrusters on it to create all kinds of ships in all shapes and sizes.

Using what you built, you fight waves of enemies before coming toe to toe with the Boss of the stage, which is (usually) a large sized Dreadnought that fires its large weapons at you from a long distance. Dodge its attacks and whittle down it's large Health pool in order to defeat it and proceed to the next Stage.

Between each Stage, you go back to the Hangar in order to improve your Ship using the Materials, Weapons and Upgrade Items that you picked up during your expedition. You can also visit the Shop to buy Weapons and other such items, trade in Scrap for Upgrade Items or place Items in the Scrap Machine to turn them into Scrap the next time you visit the Shop.

The Shipbuilding is easy to do, prioritizing creativity rather than realism, so you don't have to worry about having an engineering phd to play this game. In Shipbuilding you just have to worry about having enough Overheat Capacity and Cooling rate to support your weapons' Overheat Cost, and having enough move/turning speed to support your style of gameplay. Building a large Ship will give you a lot more stats, but keeping a small Ship and upgrading its Hull and Weapons using the same amount of Materials will result in an equivalently powerful but differently played ship build.

Weapons raise your Overheat when used and are differentiated into normal Weapons, Missile Weapons which fire Missiles that can be shot down and do devastating damage, and Anti missile Weapons, which are very cheap weapons that are meant to shoot down the low health Missiles.

Thrusters take up Overheat Capacity and Cooling rate to place and give the Ship move speed and turn speed depending on where they are placed. Rotating the Thruster will give the Ship more move speed towards the direction the thruster is pointing at.

Hulls are the building blocks of your Ship. Each type of Hull gives Health, Shield and Overheat Capacity/Cooling Rate to your ship, but different types specialize in different Stats.

While in a Stage, you regenerate Shield over time after not taking Damage for a few seconds, Overheat is reduced over time by your Cooling rate and picking up enemy Ship remains heals you significantly and lowers your Overheat.

If you reach max Overheat, your Ship gets disabled for a few seconds.

Projectiles you shoot gain your Ship's move speed and the faster they go compared to the enemy, the more damage they do. Therefore, moving towards the enemy while shooting will do more damage while making it easier to hit your shots (also you can easily become fast enough to outrun the base speed of your projectiles, so this also solves that problem).

If you are ever in big trouble, you can activate Power Burst Mode by pressing the big red button on your ship's console. This will give you a lot of Damage and move speed, you will continuously regenerate your shields, and your Overheat Capacity will be doubled, but your Overheat over time will increase instead of decreasing and your health will drop over time (min 1). This is a very powerful ability, but if not given its proper respect it can spell your doom. Many times while using it, you might reach the point when your Overheat exceeds your Normal Overheat Capacity. In many of those cases, you will either destroy an enemy ship to pick up its salvage to lower your Overheat while regenerating your Health, or you will reach the Overheat limit and be disabled for a lot longer than you would have if you had Overheated normally, almost certainly spelling your doom.
